JJ, for me, the issue with Bruckner is that it does not often sound coherent to me, in terms of themes, phrasing, and structure. Rather, it often sound discursive to me. I have a copy of the 4th (comments in the Music section thread) that mostly make...

This weekend it was 100s birthday of Günter Wand. I was not planning any “events” but the event did found me. Yesterday a local friend of my visited me. Me were listening some music and he brought some Japanese-made and not available otherwise DVDs w...

Actually my interest with Bruckner in a way was very much associated
with Clark. A couples years back, when I confronted him with that memory, my
wife even begin to express to Clark her gratitude and she got a husband out of this
deal (Amy and I m...

Like I said in my previous post, I lost my
tonearm/cartridge synergy a while back, and then I realized that I needed to
replace the surrounds on the drivers in my BassZillas, and I shut the system
down for some time, until I got The Loudspeake...

"When I moved my system
and was just learning the new room and making changes, I was also
listening to more Bach than usual. I mostly wanted to play Partitas,
Inventions, Preludes, and Goldberg Variations. I was tu...

Today the girls took off early on a shopping bender, so I quickly fired up the rig and settled back with Cosi Fan Tutte. I enjoyed the music and the performances, but I could not help getting up every so often to tune the cartridge, trying to close ...

[quote user="Romy the Cat"]Stopped by at local audio friend this Sunday and watch some Brunner, Mahler and Wagner at his HT playback. He has integrated playback installation and video is played at his main system. I am not a fan of good quality of v...

Two minutes for a self-contained sketch ... then onto the next hit! And then the next ... and the next .... Whoa! - exciting stuff. But Bruckner isn't like that - he is in it for the long haul, for the gradual deep development. The spaciousness ...

I think this relates to the diminishing popularity of baseball. Yes. Baseball is "America's National Pastime"... and called that for good reason. The operative word is "pastime". Baseball properly speaking is not a sport (nor is cricket for that matt...

Romy,FWIW I listened to a lot of Bruckner and Mahler when I was younger. Over time I noticed that I preferred Mahler when he was more objective and Bruckner when he was more subjective. So at my riper age I listen to Mahler's Sym 2 and 9 and occas...

In my experience, for many people, "lyricism" is a key when introduced to new music, no matter what the gene is. In that respect, I'd say 3rd movement of 8th.OTOH, audio people can easily be impressed by dynamic presentation, especially through the ...

I am not sure about the objectives. You are not well familiar with Bruckner and you would like to get an introductory box set or you would like to get a “box set” from downloadable recourses only? If the “downloadable” is the key they it would be jus...

Join us on Saturday, September 4, 2010, to celebrate Bruckner's 186th birthday in Carlsbad, California. This year marks our 12th annual Bruckner Marathon and we'd like to share some good music with Bruckner lovers. As in previous years, we'll pl...

Please, please, please, the British folks, make sure that you have download, record or whatever you do the last night Bruckner 8 performance. Leave the hornblende Bach plaing in the first part alone and preserve that Brucker. Lorin Maazel is gineus a...

Romy,I am very interested in this thread as I have heard the latest version of the speaker "eufrodite mk IV" . I do not think any of your objections would be changed by the latest version as he is now using push-pull array of beyma 8" drivers up to 2...

I agree with the notion that with age our tastes change, I also listen to and perform a lot of classical to baroque music, mostly with historically correct instruments and with attention to different temper.I do not consider Bach or Vivaldi any less ...

John Berky, the guy who runs abruckner.com dug out, reportedly from the conductor himself, the 94/24 recordings of Eduardo Chibas 7, 8 and 9 symphonies with Orquesta Sinfonica Venezuela. http://www.abruckner.com/store/downloads/ChibasBruckner/ Th...

It is nice that you mentioned small stroke as it this thought did pop up in my head. It is possible that the event I describe has some medical ground. What do I know? I have number of similar expresses from music, not only from Bruckner but I need to...

[quote user="rowuk"]The orchestra played B7 last year and I can testify the first trumpeter (regardless of "quality") cannot just play without abandon from beginning to end. Bruckner did not compose with earthly bounds in mind. It is not a case of ha...

My playback was in “distraction mode” for a few weeks. The electricity is horrible nowadays, summer… The arrival of APS made me to reposition all components disconnect everything and the failure of the APS so far to do what I want it to do did not en...

I’d like to pick up on one thing the visitor noted. He said Macondo was able to “dissect” the most “complex and dramatic” Bruckner. To me, this is a stunning achievement. In my humble attempts at resolving the most complex passages, all successs has ...

My Kitten left me for a week and I am enjoying a full scope of bachelor pleasures: sitting in comfy single chair while playing my music and smoking my pipe. I did not smoke in house for a year and a half and I need to admit that it is a devilish pres...

Obviously, people who have training in musical forms and elements (like myself) talk about music differently than people who are just music lovers. When I listen I switch off the analysis mode and just go with the flow. When I'm asked why I feel or t...

I was listening today before MET broadcast the Tintner’s and Ireland National Symphony take on Bruckner Second. It is very nice, not to mention that Tintner plays Bruckner original version.

Romy,
When you say no good sounding Bruckner LPs do you mean no "great" sounding, or that all Bruckner LPs sonics are average or worse?
It would help if you gave an example of late 19th C Romantic music on LP that you did con...

My and Romy's posts above from a few months ago indicated this would happen so there shouldn't be any surprise. Again, Eschenbach excels mainly in choral works for some reason. Many US orchestras have far more difficulty with Bruckner than with Mahle...
